Enactus St Andrews is proud to announce its latest project in partnership with Smart Fuel, a Ghanaian based social enterprise that looks to bring people a new clean source of income through creating a closed system of fuel recovery and resale.  It is a system that also addresses significant health and environment risks that go along with reuse of cooking oil.  The main goal is to empower the most at risk in the Ghanaian community and provide people with a future which can positively impact lives.

This biodiesel will be cheaper and produced in Ghana for Ghanaians.  Creating and incentivizing the biodiesel will be easier to market and sell due to the difference in currency and high import taxes on diesel.  Smart Fuel will be Ghana’s first WCO-biodiesel converter, which draws upon the success of similar models run by McDonald’s in Dubai and Olleco in the UK.

As partners, Enactus and Smart Fuel will work to provide a skills base in the UK with an emphasis on process efficiency, funding, and project management.  We believe that together we can make an even bigger difference.  Smart Fuel has been a highly successful social enterprise and we hope to work together off the back of both sides’ success to take the project to even greater heights.
