What is Enactus?
Enactus is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring students to improve the world through entrepreneurial action. We provide a platform for teams of outstanding university students to create community development projects that put people's own ingenuity and talents at the center of improving their livelihoods. Guided by educators and supported by business leaders, our students take the kind of entrepreneurial approach that empowers people to be a part of their own success. Our work transforms both the lives of people we serve, and in turn, the lives of our students as they develop into more effective, values-driven leaders.
Every year, each team presents the progress and impact their social enterprises have made over the year in London. The national competition brings together the next generation of leaders to share each others successes and learn best practice.
Every team gives a dynamic 17 minute presentation to a panel of guest judges from our sponsor companies, explaining their solutions and how their social enterprises are improving lives. Teams compete regionally, nationally and one team from each country goes through to the world cup every year.
This is a great opportunity for Enactus St. Andrews members to network with other Enactus branches in the UK. As well as discover new ways and avenues on how to venture out in social enterprise.
Enactus defines “entrepreneurial action” as taking the opportunity to use sustainable business and sound economic practices to develop innovative business models based on risk, commitment and a willingness to follow through. The judging criterion requires teams to apply entrepreneurial action to all their projects. Entrepreneurial action is an integrated point, clarifying the broad range of activities that can be delivered as project solutions. Entrepreneurial action should result in the demonstration of creativity, innovation and an entrepreneurial culture through the team’s efforts.
We view our work very seriously and aim to work with our beneficiaries with respect and humility. In addition to our projects carrying out wonderful business models for empowerment in local communities, we also understand that conducting market research is necessary in order to truly understand the social issues underlying a community group.
The video to the left is an example of some of our qualitative research we undergo in order to properly assess the social issues.
Through entrepreneurial action, our projects advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals
